Mid-year Reading Recap

Mid-Year Reading Update

I was shocked, when I sat down to write the re-cap of my reading since April, to see how little I’ve actually read. I knew I wasn’t reading much, for various reasons, most of them health related. I also noticed that I was reading one book at a time, for the most part, which always slows down my reading, and that often I wasn’t reading much at all. I know that the current world situation has changed a lot of people’s daily lives, and I am no exception. I’m running a little behind on my gial of reading one book a week, as I’ve only read 20 books so far this year, but I’ve been approved for quite a number of books on netgalley, I’ve purchased or pre-ordered several more, and I intend to make reading more of a focus over the coming weeks of winter (I live in Australia, for those of you who don’t know), so I hope to still achieve this goal.

It was also intertesting to note that I reviewed all of these books, taking notes for which always slows down my reading. The majority (four of the six) were also gifted in exchange for said review, meaning that I may have read even fewer books had I not felt obliged to read and share my opinions on them. Cast in Shadow and Alpha Night were the only books I read wholly of my own volition (I requested all the books I reviewed, so don’t take this as disinterest or dislike for the other books on the list, in fact I had almost purchased Phoenix Extravagant several times before I was fortunate enough to receive it, and I read it just as fast as the other books I purchased and reviewed on my own), and with the exception of Phoenix Extravagant, I did read those books noticeably faster than the others on this list.

Below is the list of books I have finished since my last update, which you can find here if you’re interested.

Guns of Liberty by Jamie Mauchline, new read, gifted
Cast in Shadow (Chronicles of Elantra #1) by Michelle Sagara, re-read, own
Phoenix Extravagant by Yoon Ha Lee, new read, gifted
The City of Zirdai (Archives of the Invisible Sword) by Maria V Snyder, new read, gifted
Alpha Night (Psy Changelings Trinity #4) by Nalini Singh, new read, own
Unconquerable Sun (The Sun Chronicles #1) by Kate Elliott, new read, gifted
