I don’t mean in a philosophical sense, this isn’t that kind of blog and I’m not that kind of person, but this is my first post. I don’t know what I’m doing yet; why do you care?
Hopefully, in the far-off distant world of ‘me being a commercially¹ successful writer‘, you’re here because you love my writing style, consisting mainly of self-deprecation and an excessive use of footnotes, brackets and other methods of shoving more words into sentences already bursting at the seams.
In reality, my guess is you got here by accident, hopefully in the time between me posting this and you finding it I’ve added something interesting enough to keep your attention.
So! If you’re still reading, I should give you something to read for. This is my best guess at what this blog is going to contain:
- First and foremost: rambles (from me, if you were hoping for someone more succinct then, hah! Please stay) about whatever topic I feel like sharing with the internet-at-large, presumably at least tangentially related to words, writing, or my life
- Second: something resembling a book review in a vague sense. Vague because I hated writing book reviews in primary school, and nothing has changed since then. My idea of a book review is more along the lines of a personal recommendation to someone who has specifically mentioned liking a particular author or genre, (though I consider genres generally useless at categorising books², and music too, come to think of it). Nevertheless, I’ll probably write something about books I’ve read recently, anything particularly exciting/disappointing about them, and any trends I’ve noticed in fiction in general, or that book in particular.
- Third and, realistically-at-the-moment, least: advice (from me, if you were hoping for someone more experienced I don’t blame you. Thank you for staying) about what does/does not make a good piece of writing, along with any tips or tricks I can drag together about how you should write.
If any of that^ seems like something you’d be interested in, feel free to bookmark this page³ and return every so often in search of fresh words. My current goal is to write something at least once a week, but there’ll probably be new content slightly more frequently than that while I’m getting started.
Thanks for reading this far, I hope you come back soon.
¹Actually getting the words down having already taken me to the ‘successful’ part, at least by my (admittedly fairly low) standards
²Stay tuned for a future ramble about how women get pigeonholed as romance authors if their writing contains a relationship that in a male author’s work would be considered a mere subplot!
³Or if you’re on mobile, screenshot with the intent to find the site and look at it properly on your laptop/tablet, forget about it for three to six months and then delete it when your storage is filling up
